Olduvai Sightings

The good people at Trader Joe’s have taken a liking to Olduvai. First it showed up on their Newton’s Folly cider, and now on their tub-o-animal crackers. They did a nice job pairing the type and illustrations.

I also noticed Free People using Olduvai in recent web banners and on their website:

New type set to launch in July

Excited about a new collaborative font effort that is set to launch in July. More details then. For now here is a preview:

Campy handlettering is addictive

Had some fun putting these event fliers and a t-shirt together for my church. Very much enjoying this campy hand-lettered style.

Eason loves typography

Eason was recently featured on the superlative website: I Love Typography. We’re working on an upcoming interview at iLT, so I’ll keep you posted when that happens. It was fun to put together such a monster-sized masthead. Eason inline falls apart on screen unless given a huge canvas, so it was a great opportunity to showcase it’s delicate details.

Side note: I am still working on drawing type. At the moment I’m in production on a four-weight typeface with extended language support (692 glyphs per font) and opentype goodies. By production, I mean I’ve drawn the glyphs across all weights and am now refining spacing, kerning, and features. I’ve kept an off-again on-again design diary chronicling some of it’s development and will post excerpts when I get a chance so you can peek into my process.
